How to enrol:

Step 1: Log in to the ACSPRI website (you can create an account or request a new password if required). The Account should be in the name of the person taking the course. Alternative billing details (e.g. for a Finance Officer) can be entered later if need be.

Step 2:  Check the status of the desired course. All courses start off as "Open" until sufficient bookings for the course to be "Confirmed". If you book a course that is "Open" you will be notified by email when it is "Confirmed".

Step 3: Select the title of the desired course to see the course outline page.  Select "Add to cart" and proceed to checkout.

Step 4: Enter billing details (e.g. yourself or an admin/finance officer) and finalise payment by credit card or request an invoice by selecting 'Direct Deposit'. Note: If your organisation requires an invoice before issuing payment, you will need to check the 'direct deposit' box in the billing stage regardless of how your organisation plans to pay for the booking. Please also note that the Early Bird Deadline relates to payment as well as booking.

Course status:

"Open" indicates that there are places available to book in this course.

"Cancelled" generally indicates that the course did not attract sufficient bookings and will not run at the program. In the case that a course has to be cancelled, those who have made a booking are contacted and offered a full refund or a transfer to another course at the same program.

"Confirmed" indicates that there are still a few places left in the course but sufficient enrolments have been made and the course is locked in for the program (it cannot be cancelled).

"Full (Waiting List)" indicates that there a no more places available in this course and a waiting list is in operation. You can join the waiting list via the course page. If a participant in that course is forced to cancel their booking, their place will be offered to those on the waiting list on a first come first served basis. If you are on the waiting list you are not committed to accept the offer. If the waiting list is joined before the early bird deadline, the discounted rate will be available for a very limited time after the offer is made. Waiting list places do not roll over into future programs.

Course Data and Research:

Course participants are welcome to bring their own research/data and work in the classroom/lab during breaks. There is also a chance the instructor will be happy to assist with related problems if there is spare course time remaining towards the end of the week.

Data and research examples appropriate for each course are provided by course instructors. In some courses it is possible for participants to spend some time working on their own data, and this is stated in the course description.

Cancellation Policy:

The course fee will be refunded if:

  • ACSPRI cancels the course in which you have enrolled, or
  • we receive notification from you of your withdrawal from a course, on or before the Early-Bird closing date.

A processing fee of $200 will be charged if we receive notification from you of your withdrawal from a course in the period from the Early-Bird closing date to the Late Cutoff Date (1 week prior to the program).

The full course fee will be charged if we receive notification from you of your withdrawal from a course after 5pm on the Late Cutoff Date.

Venues:

Australian National University, Canberra

Accommodation:

Enquiries for all possible ANU campus accommodation options should be made directly through the ANU accommodation area. Visit http://accom.anu.edu.au/ and then click on 'Visitors'.
Further accommodation options are available for individual booking through the Canberra Tourism website link at:http://www.canberra-tourism.com.au/. It is worth noting that most of the Canberra CBD ('Civic') is within relatively easy walking distance to the part of campus where ACSPRI will be based (see 'Venue and Timetable' below)

Car Parking / Transport:

Unfortunately there is limited parking available at ANU. Pay and Display parking on campus is now restricted to a maximum of 3 hours ($1.50 per hour). There is all-day ticket parking available just off campus, the closest being on Allsop St, behind the IGA and another on London Circuit opposite Gordon St.

Social Events:

A cocktail function will take place on the Monday Evening of each week of the program, following directly on from class at 5pm and running until around 6pm. Beer, wine, softdrink and finger food will be served to all ACSPRI participants and instructors. This is a great opportunity to get to know other participants and instructors as well as a terrific way to unwind after all that learning on day 1!

Venue and Timetable:

All courses run for the full week, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm each day (3pm finish on Fridays). A lunch break is scheduled for 12.30 - 1.30 (uncatered) and catered tea breaks are at 10.30 and 3.00 each day. It is only possible to enrol in one course per week of the program.

Course Locations
Specific allocation of courses to classrooms will not be finalised until just before the program, however we know that most courses will be based in Building 26 and surrounds. A campus map is here. Much of the CBD ('civic') is within easy walking distance of this part of campus. Some courses may also be based in buildings 32 or 33.

Each week of the program, a Program Welcome will be held at 9am on the Monday morning in the Manning Clark Centre (Building 26A).  Tea breaks, the Monday evening drinks for all ACSPRI participants and the ACSPRI Help Desk will all be located in that building.

Internet Access
Internet access will be available to all ACSPRI participants in ACSPRI-booked computer labs and also wireless access for participants who bring their laptops (laptops are only compulsory for John Maindonald's course "Modern Regression, Classification and Multivariate Exploration using R"). Participants of classroom-based (qualitative) courses will also be able to access labs during breaks and most likely after hours as well.
