All of our courses run for a single week (Monday to Friday) therefore it is possible to enrol in up to two courses at the Winter Program provided they do not clash.
A list of courses and other program details can be found below. Queries can be forwarded to winter2011@acspri.org.au.
Step 1: Log in to the ACSPRI website (you can create an account or request a new password if required). The Account should be in the name of the person taking the course. Alternative billing details (e.g. for a Finance Officer) can be entered later if need be.
Step 2: Check the status of the desired course. All courses start off as "Open" until sufficient bookings for the course to be "Confirmed". If you book a course that is "Open" you will be notified by email when it is "Confirmed".
Step 3: Select the title of the desired course to see the course outline page. Select "Add to cart" and proceed to checkout.
Step 4: Enter billing details (e.g. yourself or an admin/finance officer) and either finalise payment by credit card or request an invoice by selecting 'Direct Deposit' (please keep in mind the relevant payment deadlines).
Step 5: Click "Review Order" to check the details.
Step 6: Click "Submit Order" to process the booking. You will know that this has been processed successfully if you receive a receipt or invoice via email.
"Open" indicates that there are places available to book in this course.
"Confirmed" indicates that sufficient bookings have been made and the course is locked in for the program (it can not be cancelled). Bookings for this course usually can still be made.
"Cancelled" generally indicates that the course did not attract sufficient bookings and will not run at the program. In the case that a course has to be cancelled, a full refund will be provided or the booking will be transferred to another course if preferred.
"Full (Waiting List)" indicates that there a no more places available in this course and a waiting list is in operation. You can join the waiting list via the course page. If a participant in that course is forced to cancel their booking, their place will be offered to those on the waiting list on a first come first served basis. If you are on the waiting list you are not committed to accept the offer. If the waiting list is joined before the early bird deadline, the discounted rate will be available for a very limited time after the offer is made. Waiting list places do not roll over into future programs.
n.b. There is no set time at which courses are either confirmed or cancelled. It is not recommended that you hold off booking a place (or paying for it) until after the course is confirmed (as the course could be confirmed as a result of your booking), however it is advised that you hold off on making travel and accommodation arrangements until after this time.
The following pertains mainly to quantitative courses. Certain qualitative courses (e.g. Nvivo courses) also have strong pre-requisites, as described in the individual course outlines.
Introductory courses generally have no pre-requisites. Intermediate and advanced courses often have pre-requisites specified in terms of existing ACSPRI courses. For example, Applied Statistical Procedures has Fundamentals of Statistics as a pre-requisite. Prior completion of a tertiary level course at a comparable level would be an acceptable alternative. Participants should ensure that they only enrol in courses for which they meet the pre-requisite requirements summarised as follows:
Introductory Generally nil. See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
Intermediate Introduction to Statistics or equivalent and some familiarity with personal computing environments (e.g., Microsoft Windows). See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
Intermediate to Advanced Familiarity with traditional multivariate statistics (e.g., regression and factor analysis) and some familiarity with statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS). See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
Advanced Familiarity with advanced multivariate statistics (e.g., structural equations modelling) and familiarity with statistical software packages (e.g, SPSS). Some familiarity with mathematical notation may be required. See individual course descriptions for additional requirements.
If you wish to take courses in both weeks of the same program (if applicable), you may enrol in a second course at a higher level, provided that you meet the appropriate pre-requisite requirements.
If there is in any doubt as to whether you have the appropriate level of preparedness for a specific course, check with ACSPRI or your intended instructor (email contacts for all instructors are advised on the specific course outline pages).
Refunds/Cancellation Policy
Course fees are not refundable unless the course is cancelled or your application is withdrawn before the advised early-bird closing date of 4th May 2011.
A processing fee of $200 will be charged for all applications withdrawn within the period after the advised early-bird closing date of 4th May, 2011 and prior to 20 June 2011.
It is important to note that the full course fee will be charged for all applications withdrawn after c.o.b. 20 June 2011 (i.e. 1 week prior to the start of the 2011 Winter Program).
It is also important to note that ACSPRI does not accept ‘expressions of interest’ for course places, i.e. all bookings, are considered firm, and the applicable cancellation fee is payable, unless you advise cancellation/withdrawal of your booking prior to the advised early-bird date.
If in any doubt about the ACSPRI refund/cancellation policy, you should contact the ACSPRI office via email, winter2011@acspri.org.au.
University of Queensland, St Lucia Campus
On campus accommodation is available at UQ through several of the colleges, although many of them fill up quickly. It is best to contact them directly using the details here.
There are a number of off-campus options listed at http://www.accommodation.uq.edu.au/index.html?page=98144&pid=340, each usully offer easy bus/ferry access to UQ, St Lucia, however it is a good idea to check this while booking. UQ Accommodation Services Staff advise that the following from this list are most likely to have accommodation available at competitive prices:
- Brisbane's Best Indooroopilly
- Central Summit Apartments
- St Lucia Gardens Apartments
- Taringa Gardens Apartments
- Whitmore Park Apartments
Two other good but slightly more expensive options are:
- Parkview Apartments
- Hotel Grand Chancellor (mention you are a UQ conference delegate for rooms around $150-160p/n)
Alternatively, there are several options in Toowong, which is connected to UQ by the CityCat ferry and several bus services. Toowong is also only a few minutes from the city by train. A web search of 'Toowong', 'accommodation' and 'Brisbane' should provide you with some options.
Ferry
The Brisbane City Council (CityCat) ferry service operates between the city (and beyond) and St Lucia. The ferry is a pleasant way to travel to campus and is also an effective way of commuting from areas such as Toowong and the city. The ferry stop at UQ is only a short walk from the Business Precinct, where most ACSPRI courses will be run.
The latest updates on the ferry service can be found through www.translink.qld.gov.au.
Bus
Brisbane City Council buses leave from the bus stop in Chancellor's Place near the J. D. Story Building, St Lucia. Bus timetable information can be obtained through the Translink website, www.translink.com.au.
Timetables are available from the Student Centre. There are various bus routes that service UQ and many of them run more frequently.
Bicycle
The University of Queensland (St Lucia) is ideally accessed by bicycle, with a safe riverside bicycle path connecting St Lucia campus to the city. You can follow the roads or use combinations of roads and bike paths. Remember too, that bikes may be taken on City Cat river ferries. There is a University Bicycle Shop in the St Lucia Campus Union Complex and bike parking facilities are available.
Taxi
Taxi ranks are located on the roundabout at Chancellors Place, and in University Drive, at St Lucia Campus.
Car Parking
Paid parking operates on the St Lucia campus from 7:00am to 9:00pm every weekday. Short-term parking is available in central locations, and long-term casual parking is available in the two multi-level carparks off Sir Fred Schonell Drive, at Parking Station 1 (opposite the Athletics Centre), and in the Warehouse carpark (entry from Walcott Street). The two multi-level carparks off Sir Fred Schonell Drive would be the closest convenient parking to the Winter Program. The multi-level car parks are open 24 hours, and currently cost $5 per exit.
For more detailed information on parking at St Lucia Campus, and to view the St Lucia Campus map, visit the St Lucia Campus web pages at
http://www.uq.edu.au/parking
Parking guides are available from the Student Centres.
Unless you are a local resident, parking in local streets around the St Lucia campus is limited to 2 hours between 7am and 6pm from February to November.
ACSPRI accepts no responsibility for parking fines incurred by program participants.
