This master-class introduces NVivo, and takes researchers through the process of sorting and organising literature and notes from readings in a systematic way. NVivo can be a powerful tool to help you conduct your literature review in an effective and efficient way.

Lyn Lavery established Academic Consulting in 1999 following a successful career in the tertiary sector. Her 25+ years background in education, combined with a PhD which examined self-regulated learning at a tertiary level, provide a solid platform for developing the company’s innovative training programme. As well as overseeing the company, Lyn provides individual support to researchers and postgraduate students. By the end of the workshop attendees will:
- Have a basic understanding on how to use NVivo
- How to get the most out of their literature using NVivo
The workshop is relevant to researchers at all stages and across all disciplines. No prior knowledge of NVivo is necessary in order to attend the class. It starts from the very basics of the software.
Day 1
- Importing material from Endnote
- Importing material from the internet
- Taking notes in NVivo
- Coding your literature and notes in NVivo
- Using Text Search and Word Frequencies to level up your Literature Review
Day 2
- Sorting and structuring you literature and notes using NVivo
- Manage reading lists and references in NVivo
- Using Query features in NVivo to help find patterns and relationships across your literature.
This workshop will take place online via Zoom. All material will be provided.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own literature.
You will need to have NVivo installed on your computer prior to the session.
If you don't have a copy you can install a 14 day trial version.
It is recommended that you try and install it 2 or three days before the 1st session so you don't run out of time before the course.
