Files for the Learning R: Open Source (Free) Stats Package course

The DAAGviz Package for R

The R system is a library of packages. The DAAGviz package has been designed for use with the course notes. It provides R scripts (these have the R code from the notes), source files for functions that can be used to reproduce all the graphs, and several datasets. The package is a convenience. The scripts and source files for functions will all be available separately from the package.

Files from which the DAAGviz package can be installed are supplied here, allowing those who wish to install the package in advance of the course to do so.

  • The file DAAGviz_1.0.4.zip is for installation under R for Windows. Download. Then install from the RStudio menu or from the Windows GUI menu. More steps are involved in the installation process than for installing from CRAN packages that are available there:
    • From the RStudio panel that has the Packages tab (in an off-the-shelf installation, look in the lower right panel), click on Packages | Install. Under 'Install from' (line 2 from top) in the window that pops up, select Package Archive File (.zip; .tar.gz). Then navigate to the file DAAGviz_1.0.4.zip, and click Install....
    • From the Windows GUI, click Packages | Install package(s) from local zip file(s)..., navigate to the file DAAGviz_1.0.4.zip, click Open
  • The file DAAGviz_1.0.4.tar_.gz is intended for installation to R under Mac or Linux or Unix. Download, then rename to DAAGviz_1.0.4.tar.gz. Then install from the RStudio menu (Install from package archive file) or from the MacOS X GUI menu (under 'Package repository', select 'Local source file').
    • Follow the installation instructions for Windows (RStudio or now Mac GUI), with the difference that you will be installing a source .tar.gz file rather than a .zip file.

Log in to download the file(s) that are appropriate for your setup(s).

For use of DAAGviz, it will be necessary to have the package DAAG and dependencies installed.

You should also install, at some point: car (this has some large dependencies and may take a while to install), RColorBrewer, ggplot2, leaps, quantreg, oz, KernSmooth, forecast, rgl, dismo, WDI, plyr, dplyr,reshape2, googleVis, knitr and vcd. Or these can be installed on demand, as required. For some later chapters of the notes, which are for this course optional extras, other packages that will be required are:
latticist, playwith, randomForest, DAAGbio, gamclass, tm, wordcloud, Ecdat, sp, plotKML and rgdal.
